Blood Pressure
Medications for High Blood Pressure
When healthy lifestyle changes are not enough to lower high blood pressure, doctors may prescribe one or more medications to lower blood pressure.
There are three types of medications; ones that:
- Relax and therefore widen blood vessels (ACE Inhibitors, ARBs, Calcium Channel Blockers)
- Altace
- Micardis
- Norvasc
- Slow down the rate of heartbeats or the pumping force, therefore reducing the pressure on the wall of the blood vessels (Beta Blockers)
- Betaloc
- Remove fluid from the body, therefore reducing the volume of blood from the vessels (Diuretics)
- Hydrodiuril
- Loside
- Lasix
